Raised 12 Children on Farm South of Blair

Dolores M. Schroeder Miller, 83, of Tekamah, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at the Tekamah Golden Living Center. A memorial gathering will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 3, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Dolores Marie Matya was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Cedar Rapids to Thomas and Katherine (Browers) Matya.

She graduated from Omaha North High School in 1945 after her family moved to Omaha.

On June 3, 1946, she married Robert W. Schroeder Sr. at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Omaha. They raised a family of 12 children on a farm south of Blair. After living and farming in Herman for two years, they moved to Tekamah in 1972.

After the death of her husband in 1986, she became active at the Chatt Senior Center. While volunteering there, she met her second husband, Elwood B. Miller, whom she married on Oct. 8, 1993. He died in January of 2007.

Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah.

She enjoyed sewing, crafting, decorating for the holidays, and collecting teddy bear memorabilia. Her love of jokes and storytelling entertained all those around her. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, playing cards and games, as well as taking trips to the casino.

She is survived by her children, Diane Frazer of Columbus, David Schroeder of Omaha, Donald and Lori Schroeder of Broken Arrow, Okla., Denise and Jerry Dick of Blair, Ronald Schroeder, Mary and Kelly Ducheneaux and Margaret and Chris Carlson, all of Tekamah, Debra and Lester Campbell Jr. of Crescent, Iowa, Mark and Carmen Schroeder of Lincoln, Marti and Kurt Potadle of Herman; 31 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Angeline Henderson of Grants Pass, Ore., Shirley Mentzer of Missouri, and Mary Ann and Emilio Rindone of Omaha; sister-in-law, Joan Schroeder of Vermillion, S.D.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Leo, Thomas and Raymond Matya; sisters, Monica, Rosella, and Mary Magdalene; and children, Daniel and Robert Jr.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick's Catholic Church Building Fund.
