Eao M. Carson, 82, of Scribner, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Fremont Health Medical Center.

Eao was born on the hottest day of the year at home in Bloomfield on July 19, 1934, to Gerald and Mildred (Fish) Johns. Her dad was killed in World War II when she was 10 years old. Her mother went to work in a clothing store, so Eao was expected to care for her 5-year-old brother. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1952. She attended Norfolk Jr. College till May 1954, then began her 50-year teaching career at Beaver Crossing. In 1956, she met Kenly Carson who was a Chicago and Northwestern Railroad employee working at Beaver Crossing. They married at Bloomfield on July 28, 1957. Arlington was her next teaching job. In September 1958 Kenley was transferred to Nora, then to Superior. He was transferred to Dodge and they made their first home in Snyder, then Dodge and finally Scribner. In August 1962, Eao started teaching kindergarten at Scribner Public Schools, a job that lasted 26 years. Eao attended Midland Lutheran College (now Midland University) in Fremont taking summer and night classes, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1971.

After retiring from teaching in Scribner, she taught preschool classes in day care centers in Fremont, Hooper and Scribner. She also was a nanny for many years for Ian Bradbury, Beth and Jessie Waggoner.

Eao was very active in her church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also volunteered at the Scribner Good Samaritan Center. She was an avid bird watcher, belonging to two bird clubs.

Survivors include: daughters, Denise (Jeff) Winch of Lincoln and Pam (Shane) Weitzenkamp of Granger, Iowa; sons, Gerald (Bonnie) Carson of Lincoln and Mark (Karen) Carson of Elkhorn; grandchildren, Shanda (Jeff) Harclerode, Kelsey Carson, Makenzie and Jenna Carson, Josh (Erica) Chaney, Nick (Stephanie) Foreman, Nate (Tracy) Foreman, Jeff and Craig Weitzenkamp, Kyle Carson and Adam (Liz) Carson; stepgrandchildren, Cassie Kissinger, Dallas Winch and Mark Cooney; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Olivia Chaney, Alexa and Ryker Foreman, Kenley, Xander and Elissa Foreman, and Hannah and Carson Harclerode; stepgreat-grandchildren, Payne and Mayson Kissinger, Kinleigh Kay White and Layden Smith; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Johns and Jeanette Johnson.

Eao was preceded in death by her husband Kenley in June of 1984 and special friend, Arlon Whittington.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ in Scribner. The Rev. Larry Jirsak will officiate. Burial will follow in Scribner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8pm Tuesday at Ludvigsen’s Scribner Funeral chapel with the family present from 6-8 pm.

Memorials are suggested to the Scribner Library, Scribner Volunteer Rescue Squad, Scribner Good Samaritan Society and the United Church of Christ in Scribner.
