George Hooks, a pioneer of this county for fifty years and who has been in recent years an invalid, passed away at the local hospital Monday evening at seven o'clock. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday in charge of Rev. W.H. Underwood and Rev. O.U. McProud. Mr. Hooks was 64 years old at the time of his death and leaves two brothers, Frank of California, and Robert of Blair, also a sister, Mrs. Bob Wilson of Blair, to mourn his departure.

Geo. W. Hooks was born in Edgewood, Ill., May 11, 1860 and spent his early childhood there. He came to Nebraska when a boy and has since made this his home.

He was a lover of horses and when horses were popular was the owner of several well bred horses.

He was a man well-liked by those who knew him, truthful, honest and loyal to his friends. For several years he has been in poor health and on Monday, July 14 he passed away at the Blair hospital where he had been taken for treatment.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. W.H. Underwood was held yesterday at the M.E. church at 2:30 P.M. and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

In this immediate vicinity he leaves one sister, Mrs. Robert Wilson and one brother, Mr. Robert Hooks to mourn him.

George Hooks died at the Blair hospital at 7 o'clock last evening of a complication of heart trouble and diabetes. The body was taken to the home of his brother, Robert, and the funeral will be held at the Methodist church at 2:30 this afternoon, Rev. O.U. McProud and Rev. W.H. Underwood officiating. George was born in Irvingham county, Ill., May 11, 1860, so was just 64 years of age last May. He came here when but a lad of 14 and this county had been his home for over half a century. He was never married. He leaves two brothers, Robert, of this city and Frank, of St. Helena, California. Also one sister, Mrs. Robert Wilson, of this city.
