Elaine "Sherry" C. Hiszczynskyj, 66, of Topaka, Kan., died April 12, 2007, in a motor vehicle accident near Lamoni, Iowa.

A funeral Mass is slated for 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, with a rosary at 5 p.m.

Elaine Carol Sheridan was born Feb. 14, 1941, in Mason City, Iowa, to Phillip and Carol Sheridan. She graduated in 1959 from Saint Joseph High School in Mason City, Iowa, where she enjoyed playing the string bass and percussion. She was a graduate of Mason City Junior College and graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor of science in medical technology. She worked as a medical laboratory technologist for the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City, where she met her husband. She married Dr. Roman Hiszczynskyj on Sept. 11, 1965.

She is remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother; a caring daughter and sister; and a kind and generous friend.

She was an active parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka. She was a member of Chapter CS of PEO, the Junior League of Topeka, and the Shawnee County Medical Society Alliance. She served on the board of directors of Ronald McDonald House and held several leadership positions on the Muvlane Women's Board. She enjoyed music, theater, art and travel.

She is survived by her husband, Roman; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Hon. Timothy Henderson of Wichita, Carol and Dr. George Evans of Topeka, Laura Hiszczynskyj of Eugene, Ore.; son , Gregory Hiszczynskyj of Topeka; and eight grandchildren; five siblings, Cynthia and Sherman Berg of Blair, Suzanne and Ron Factor of Marksville, La., Dr. Richard and Frances Sheridan of Grass Valley, Calif., Michael Sheridan of Topeka, Daniel Basgall of Cowpens, S.C., and 16 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Sylvester Basgall and a nephew.
