Lifelong Farme Near Tekamah

Bernard H. Uhing, 88, of Tekamah, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah. Interment will be in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Bernard Henry Uhing was born Feb. 19, 1923, in West Point to Carl Leo and Catherine M. (Wortman) Uhing.

On Sept. 6, 1943, he married Dorothy Mae Von Seggern at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah. The couple had four sons.

Mr. Uhing was a lifelong farmer, and the family farmed near Tekamah.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and served on the Silver Creek Township Board for eight years.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Karen Uhing, Richard and Linda Uhing, all of Tekamah, Brian and Chris Uhing of Fremont, Terry Uhing of Sonora, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Agnes Petersen of Blair and Helen and Merle Barr of Rockport, Mo.; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Shirley Uhing of Uehling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae, in September of 1997; four brothers, Carl, Arthur, Eugene and Herbert Uhing; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Olivia and Jim Hare and Dorothy and Howard Von Seggern.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
