George Wesley "Sonny" Hobbs, 89, of Westwood Knolls in Carroll, Iowa, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Services were Thursday, April 22, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with his grandson, Father Mark McKercher and Father Peter Nguyen officiating.

Burial was in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden, Iowa.

The son of George Washington and Laura Piniah (Sexton) Hobbs, George Wesley was born on Nov. 28, 1909, on a farm in Glidden, Iowa.

He attended Ralston and Glidden Schools, graduating from Glidden High School in 1927.

On Sept. 12, 1955, he married Josephine Wiese Kroeger at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa.

A farmer, he retired in 1986 and moved to Westwood Knolls in Carroll, Iowa in 1997.

He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll and had served on the Board of Directors of the Glidden R.E.C. for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine of Carroll, Iowa; stepsons, Joseph Kroeger, Arnold Kroeger and his wife, Sharon, of Tampa, Fla.; step-daughter, Judy McKercher and her husband, Harold, of Blair; six step-grandchildren, Cindy Martin and her husband, Rodney, Sondi Kroeger, Dawn Cavalier and her husband, Ron, Joseph Kroeger and his wife, Lindsay, Michael McKercher and Father Mark McKercher; three step-great-grandchildren, Wesley Martin, Laura Martin and Kinberly Cavalier, a niece, Lois Bluml and other nephews and nieces, and sister-in-law, Florine Lilly of Fonda, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Glen Hobbs and a sister, Iva Earhart.

Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
