Former Washington County resident Walter Hoegermeyer, 87, died Jan. 22, 2004, at his home in Fremont.

Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. Interment was in Memorial Cemetery.

Walter Hoegermeyer was born Dec. 28, 1916, to Otto and Lydia (Wittman) Hoegermeyer on the farm north of Hooper. He attended rural school district 16, then attended one year at Hooper High School and three years in the Scribner High School, where he graduated. He also attended agriculture college at the University in Lincoln.

On Feb. 16, 1941, he married Lillie Katt at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Hooper. The couple farmed in the Herman and Hooper area for 50 years before moving to Fremont in 1991.

Mr. Hoegermeyer was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder, and had been active in the choir. He was also a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. For several years, he sang with the Pathfinder Chorus. He was also a member of the Golden "K" Kiwanis Club, and, in his earlier years, was involved with the 4-H program. Before moving to Fremont, the Hoegermeyers were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Hooper.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Sharon Hoegermeyer of Herman; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Norman Paasch of Snyder, Jeanette and Boyd Beune of Wisner and Nancy and William Lederer of Macomb, Mich.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie, a brother, Hugo, and a sister, Verna Hilgenkamp.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
