Blair native Ella Hovendick, 92, of Fremont, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003.

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 25, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. John Plowman officiating. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

Ella Hovendick was born Oct. 6, 1910, in Washington County to Soren and Maren (Nielsen) Nielsen. She grew up in Washington County and graduated from Blair High School.

On Oct. 20, 1932, she married Ivan H. Hovendick at First Lutheran Church in Blair. The couple farmed in the county with Ivan’s parents. They later moved to Blair and then to the Spiker area, where they farmed. They retired and moved to Fremont in 1973.

Mrs. Hovendick was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont, where she was active in her church circle, the quilting group and altar guild.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Sharlene and Ron Moore of Blair, Beverly and Larry Goldsberry of Fremont, Lyla and Pat Shamburg of Lincoln, and Joyce Hovendick of Omaha; a daughter-in-law, Donna Hovendick of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan, in 1998; a son, Ivan, a granddaughter, and five brothers and a sister.

Memorials are suggested to St. Timothy Lutheran Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
