Francis Joseph Hovendick, 88, of Blair died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Omaha.

Mr. Hovendick was born May 9 1909 in rural Blair to Frank and Elfrieda Trantow Hovendick. He was baptized July 11, 1909 and was confirmed in December of 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington, Neb. He attended the Maney School. On Feb. 22, 1936, he married Frieda Rix. They lived in the DeSoto Hills area. In 1938, they moved to his family’s home place south of Blair in Richland Township. He farmed all his life until 1970, when he sold the farm for which he had received the Pioneer Farm Award in 1968. After moving to Blair, he worked as a custodian for the Blair School system until retiring. He then worked as custodian for First Lutheran Church for 14 years.

His wife, Frieda, died in January of 1965.

On April 24, 1966, he married Velda K. Kinyon. She survives him.

Other survivors are two children and their spouses, Lois and Marvin Cudley, Blair and Duane and Penny Hovendick, Omaha; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his first wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Kent.

Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.
