Vera L. Husk, 99, of Blair, died Thursday, June 16, 2011, in Blair.

Funeral services were Monday, June 20, at the Campbell-Aman Mortuary in Blair. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

Vera L. McCowan was born July 4, 1911, in Omaha, to Samuel and Stella (Barton) McCowan. She grew up on a farm northwest of Blair and attended Glendale School through the eighth grade. After school she remained on the farm helping with the usual farm chores. It was in this area that she met and married Lloyd Husk.

The couple moved to a farm in Burt County where they rented for a number of years. Eventually, they bought a farm on Silver Creek in Burt County where they resided until her husband's death in 1973. After his death, Mrs. Husk learned how to drive and got her license so that she could continue the egg route that they had in Tekamah. In 1974, she moved to Blair to be nearer relatives. Mrs. Husk always had a large garden, a flock of chickens, a flock of sheep, milking cows and hogs on the farm and she brought a love of gardening and her animals with her to Blair.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Gracie Husk of Herman; nieces and husbands, Marilyn and George Zuniga of Ault, Colo., Eleanor Miller of Herman, Marlene and Willis Lucht of Blair, Dorothea and Richard Olson of Waterloo, Donna and Larry Hintz of Fremont, Mary and Wayne Panning of Hooper, Shirley and Richard Libby and Addie and Arda Lomax, all of Peeples Valley, Ariz., Jeannine and Vincent Grothouse, and Susan Chase, all of Sun City, Ariz., Sharon and Perry Gydesen of O'Dell, Jacque and Larry Orvis of Norfolk; nephews and wives, Roland Husk of Fort Calhoun, Donald Husk of Indian Trail, N.C., Wayne and Merline Husk of Phoenix, Ariz., Garry and Janie Husk and Robert and Charlotte Husk, all of Fremont, Dennis Husk of Colorado Springs, Colo., Richard and Lucy Husk of Hollis, N.H., John and Judy Husk of Cincinnati, Ohio; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
