Ivan H. Hovendick, 86, of Fremont, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998 at Birchwood Manor in North Bend.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont with Rev. Dana Mark officiating.

Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, in charge of arrangement.

Ivan H. Hovendick was born on Jan. 26, 1912, to Henry and Eva (Schellenger) Hovendick on the farm near Herman where he grew up.

He had attended the Hill Creek School. He began farming.

On Oct. 20, 1932, he married Ella Nielsen at First Lutheran Church in Blair.

He farmed for awhile with his father in Washington County then moved to a farm in the Spiker area. He then bought a farm in the Spiker area where he farmed until he retired in1973.

Upon retiring, the Hovendicks moved to Fremont.

He had been a resident of the Birchwood Manor in North Bend for the past two years.

He was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont.

He was an avid baseball fan and had played ball in his earlier years.

He is survived by his wife, Ella; four daughters, Lyla and Husband, Pat Shamburg, of Lincoln, Beverly and husband, Larry Goldsberry, of Fremont, Sharlene and husband, Ron Moore of Blair and Joyce Agman of Omaha; one daughter-in-law, Donna Hovendick of Blair; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Bessie Magill of Blair.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ivan, Jr.; a granddaughter, Mary Jo Hovendick; two brothers and two sisters.

Memorials are suggested to St. Timothy Lutheran Church or to the Birchwood Manor.
