Died on 6/30/2010
Buried in Allen (Pioneer Memorial) Cemetery

Ruth Allen Tilden, 99, died June 30, 2010, in Allentown, Pa. Her husband, Norman E. Tilden Sr., 99, preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2010, also in Allentown. Individual church services were held in Bethlehem, Pa., at the time of their deaths.

The couple had requested that their final resting place be in Blair. Members of the family will gather at noon, Friday, July 9, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair, and a gravesite memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Allen family cemetery, CL Co. Road P 37.

Ruth Allen Tilden was born and raised in the Blair area. She was the daughter of Helen M. Pierce and Clyde M. Allen.

Norman E. Tilden was the son of Blanche Schneringer and Dr. Roy Tilden.

Because of Norman Tilden's work as a civil engineer with Standard Oil of N.J. (now known as Exxon), the couple and their two children lived in many different areas, including 15 years in Caracas, Venezuela.

Mrs. Tilden, educated as a teacher, spent a number of years teaching English at the Language Institute in Caracas. After retirement in 1984, they moved to Pensacola, Fla., where their home was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. They then relocated to Allentown, to be near their daughter and grandchildren.

They are survived by their daughter, Dr. Barbara Tilden Thompson of Allentown; son and daughter-in-law, Norman E. Jr. and Carmen Fuentes Tilden of Caracas; Norman Sr.'s sister, Ruth Pike of Prescott, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
