Wm. H. Hovendick, Resident Since 1869, Victim of Heart Ailment-Last Rites Being Held Here Today

William H. Hovendick, a resident of Blair for the past eleven years and of the county since 1869, died suddenly at this home in this city on Monday evening at ten o’clock. He had visited with friends during the day and seemed in good spirits up to the time of his death.

Deceased was born in Quincy, Illinois, and when three years of age, the family moved to this county where the father bought a farm south of Blair, where he grew to manhood.

Mr. Hovendick was married to Lavina Abigail Rosenbaum on December 24, 1891, the marriage ceremony being performed at the Parker Rosenbaum home.

Following the ceremony, the young couple immediately went to farming on a farm near Spiker where they lived for forty years and where their family was reared. Eleven years ago, on account of failing health of both him and his wife, he retired from farming and moved to Blair.

Five years ago, Mrs. Hovendick died, and since that time he has continued to live in the home with a daughter, Mabel Hovendick, who kept house for him and ministered kindly to his needs.

Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hovendick, seven of whom survive. They are Edward and William of Herman; Mrs. Pearl Johnson, Mrs. Edna Holstein, Mrs. Edith Atwood and Mabel, all of Blair; and Mrs. Myrtle Christensen, of Tekamah.

Besides these, four brothers and four sisters also survive. They are Henry and Frank, of Blair; Ed, of Omaha; and Louis of Herman; and Mrs. Caroline Rosenbaum, of Blair; Mrs. Emma Skinner and Mrs. Mary Grabbe, of Herman and Mrs. Amelia VanHuss, of Hydro, Oklahoma.

Funeral services are to be held this (Thursday) afternoon from the Bendorf Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Cochran of the Christian Church officiating and interment will be made in the Blair Cemetery.
