Funeral services for Dr. C. D. Howard will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 19 at St. Francis Borgia Church with burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Rosary will be said 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home.

Dr. C.D. Howard died at his home on Tuesday, May 16.

He was born December 1, 1904, at Guide Rock, Nebraska. He attended school in Guide Rock and then entered Cotner College.

After graduation he went to Crete, Nebraska, where he was a science instructor and assistant coach. Two years later he entered the University of Nebraska, College of Medicine, where he was a member of the Phi Chi Medical Fraternity.

Howard graduated from medical school in 1934, and after a year of internship, he came to Blair. There he opened his office July 1, 1935, to practice medicine and surgery.

In the fall of 1937, Dr. Howard married Beatrice Foley of Blair. Two years later they built their home on Grant Street and have resided there since.

Even though he was busy with medicine, Howard took time to get involved in community affairs. Being a flying enthusiast and veteran pilot, Dr. Howard helped develop the Blair Airport in 1939.

He was the last living Charter member of the Blair Rotary Club; served on the first Board of Public Works; was active in the Chamber of Commerce and the Blair Golf Club, which he helped develop in 1949.

In 1986, Dr. Howard was awarded the Blair Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Howard is survived by his wife Beatrice, two children, Sheila Seberg and Kent Howard; and six grandchildren.
