Sylvester “Sy” C. Burris, 76 years, of Arlington passed away Friday, September 1st at Good Shepherd Lutheran Community in Blair.

Sy was born July 23, 1941, to John and Myrtle (Brown) Burris in Anselmo. He grew up in Casa Grande, Ariz., and graduated in 1959 at Casa Grande High School. He was an All-State Football star. After high school, Sy attended the Phoenix Police Academy in Phoenix, Ariz., and became a police officer in Casa Grande for three years. On May 4, 1962, he married Joann Holland in Winter Haven, Calif. In 1964, Sy and Joann moved to Shelton, where he farmed for 10 years. In 1971, they made their home outside of Arlington, where he continued farming and taking care of cattle for Rhea Cattle Company.

Sy was an avid Husker fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching football, bowling and farming.

Survivors include wife, Joann; sons, Chuck (Lisa) Burris of Arlington, Kevin (Valerie) Burris of Kennard; daughters, Cindy (Kelly) Weirich of Bellevue, Candy (the late Bryan) Muhlbach of Fremont; sisters, Mary Myers of Clinton, Ark., Margaret (Ed) Myers of Gun Barrel City, Texas; grandchildren, Dillan, Austin, Christopher, Danielle, Kyle, Taylor, Morgan, Heather, Tony, Justin, Quinton and Lars; and 12 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Addie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Bryan Muhlbach.

The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 7th at Arlington Community Church in Arlington. The Rev. Scott Jensen officiated.

Memorials may be designated to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery at a later date.
