Mardelle Eix , 89, of Fremont passed away September 1, 2017, at her home surrounded by family.

Mardelle Dorothy Boies was born in Plainview May 23, 1928, to Dee and Violet Boies. Growing up in Plainview, her mom sent her for piano lessons. She hated practicing and finally talked her mom into quitting. That did not end her piano playing. Mardelle could play by ear and taught herself to chord so she could play any music she heard. Even after a stroke, she entertained the other patients at Dunklau Gardens with her music.

When her children were small, she was a Cub Scout leader for years. She was an avid card player, always ready for a game of pinochle. On Sundays, the family would meet at her parents’ home for dinner, then the kids headed to the basement for a game of clue while the adults played pinochle for the afternoon. After those games ended with the death of her parents, she was always eager for a game with anyone she could talk into playing, whether it was pinochle, Pitch, Skipbo or Kings in the Corner. If she couldn’t find anyone to play, she would play Solitaire for hours.

She married Donald Raymond Eix in South Sioux City on April 6, 1945. Mardelle and Don had 8 children. After Don died, she and her daughter, Donnelle, shared a home until Mardelle’s death. She will be missed by her family and many friends she shared great times with.

She is survived by her children: Iris (Julius) Vitamvas, Fremont, Jo (Gary) Mathiesen, Herman, Glenn Runninghawk, Fremont, DeeAnna (Richard) Gotschall, Salina, Kan., David (Susan) Eix, Blair, and Donnelle (Mustafa) Arikan, Fremont; brother, Jerry Boies, Arlington; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Boies, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Rose Boies, Hooper. She was blessed with 26 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two children, Donald Jr. and Elizabeth; and brothers, Vernon Boies of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Milton Boies and Glenn Boies of Fremont.

Services were held Wednesday, September 6 at Grace United Methodist Church in Kennard. A private burial will be scheduled for a future date.
