Christopher F. A. Warman, 56

Self-described Spiritual Secular Humanist

Christopher F. A. Warman, 56, of Surry, N.H., died peacefully with his family and friends present at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Cheshire Family Funeral Home in West Swanzey, N.H. A private interment will follow in Maine.

Christopher "Chris" F.A. Warman was born June 30, 1954, in North Platte to Donald and Sandra (Miller) Warman. He attended North Platte High School, and graduated from Dana College in Blair where he earned a bachelor of science in anthropology.

On March 31, 2003, he married Karyn L. Hagen, whom he had met at Dana. Their relationship began in 1977 and they shared 34 years together.

For 28 years, The Toadstool Bookshop was the place where many came to know him as a purveyor of books, a philosopher, humorist and friend.

He was a self-described spiritual secular humanist. He enjoyed reading, music, philosophy and was a movie buff. He enjoyed tinkering with electronic devices and getting them to work.

For the past several years, he served as the water commissioner for the Surry Village Water Company. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially on vacation, both stateside and abroad. For fun, he was part of the crew for a friend's hot air balloon.

He is survived by his wife, Karyn; daughter, Lizabeth A. Doicin, also of Surry; parents, Donald and Sandra Warman of Keene; brother and sister-in-law, Winston and Rachel Warman of Omaha, and Jonathan Warman and partner, Gacin Barkett of New York City; aunt, uncle, niece, nephew and cousins; brother-in-law, Victor Doicin.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Marion Doicin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name are suggested to the Reed Free Library, 8 Village Road, Surry, N.H., 03431.
