Otto Bohling, 92

Otto Bowling, 92, of Fremont, died July 17 at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Donald Levenhagen officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery of rural Hooper.

Otto Bowling was born December 7, 1908 on the family farm in Dodge County to Henry and Caroline (Siebur) Bohling, He was baptized December 20, 1908 by Pastor J.G. Gerdes in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Winslow. He attended the rural school district 54 near Hooper.

Mr. Bohling farmed south of Hooper for 19 years on the farm of Dr. Heine. Then, he and his wife moved to the Bohling home farm, northeast of Hooper. There he operated a Grade ‘A’ Dairy, and also raised hogs and chickens. He had remained active on the farm, driving the truck and tractor, until 1991.

He served the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Hooper as a trustee while a member there for many years. He also served on the school board of District 64, and had been a director of the American Breeder’s Association.

On February 21, 1933, he married Esther Timme in the August Timme home in Washington County. She preceded him in death in 1977. On January 5, 1979, he married Alice Plugge Hansen in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. She preceded him in death in 1998.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Marilyn Bohling, and Kermit and Suzie Bohling, all of Hooper; six grandchildren and their spouses, three great-granddaughters, two step children and their spouses, Betty and Jerry Vondenkamp of Arlington and Gary and De Hansen of Rochester, Minnesota, 14 step grandchildren and 25 step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Hour and to the Good Shepherd Church building fund.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
