July 24, 1939 - September 24, 2017

Joyce E. Smith, 78 years, of Fremont, NE passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Dunklau Gardens.

She was born July 24, 1939 in Neligh, NE to Harold and Olga (Overton) Hansen. Joyce grew up in Blair. When her children were young, the family moved to Fremont.  In 1972 moved to Moab, Utah and in 1976 to Wyoming. For health reasons and be closer to her children, she returned to Fremont in 1998. She loved the mountains and Wyoming would forever be “home” to her.

She worked as a waitress, office manager at an insurance company, and apartment manager. Joyce’s hobbies were cooking (everything from scratch) & Delicious, collecting elephants, teapots and books. She loved going to auctions and family dinners. There was always a book on her nightstand and she read every night before going to sleep. She also adored German Shepherds, especially Zena.

Joyce loved her grandchildren and treasured being called “Grandma Grandma“ by her great grandchildren.

Joyce will be remembered for her quick wit, determination to do it her way, and unique way of always saying what was on her mind.

Preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law Tim Lodge.

Survivors include; sons, Brad Marshall and Chad (Shannon) Marshall all of Fremont; daughters, Brenda Lodge, Fremont, Dee Anna Slavensky of Moab, UT and Denise Marshall of Fremont; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be 11 AM to 2 PM, Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Eagles Club in Fremont, NE.
