Husband of Blair Girl Electrocuted

Mention was made last week in The Enterprise columns of the arrival of a telegram form Flagstaff, Arizona, to Mr. and Mrs. Jens Clausen, announcing the sudden death of their son-in-law, Richard Godwin, of that place.

Further particulars were received this week and are as follows:

Richard Godwin, lineman for the Flagstaff, Arizona Electric Co., was electrocuted Monday, August 29, while working with another lineman replacing a burned out transformer on an electric light pole which carried high tension wires. He received a full charge of 2300 volts through his body, a current strong enough to kill nine times out of ten.

Richard Godwin was born in Taos, New Mexico, April 12, 1906 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Godwin. The family moved to Flagstaff about two and one-half years ago.

He was married last January 9 to Miss Florence Clausen, youngest daughter of Mrs. And Mrs. Jens Clausen of this city who has been doing stenographic work there for several years.

Beside his wife, he is survived by his parents, three brothers and one sister, all of Flagstaff and one sister of Norwood, Colorado. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Sept.1 and burial made at Flagstaff.

The local paper at Flagstaff had the following eulogy: “The deceased was a devoted husband and son, well liked by all who came in contact with him. In his two and one-half years residence here he has made many friends. He was a competent worker and will be missed from the local light company’s staff.”

The sympathy of many Blair friends and old school mates is extended to the wife of the deceased who is so far from her own people in this hour of sorrow.
