Mary Jensen

LOVELAND, COLORADO — Mary Alice Jensen, age 87, died at 5 a.m. Oct. 13, 2017, at her home at Good Samaritan Village, in Loveland, Colorado.

Mary was born at home on the farm near Washington, Nebraska, to John and Corinne Stewart Marshall. She attended country schools, then Arlington High School. She excelled in 4-H and was coroneted 4-H Queen for Washington County at age 18. Mary attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, studying home economics and elementary education. She taught country school and later kindergarten for her career with Fremont Public Schools.

She married Bob Newkirk in 1951. Two children were born to their union, Diana and James. Bob and Mary were very involved with their church, Fremont Alliance, where they led Bible studies in their home for many years. Through their example, they inspired many to grow in their walk with the Lord. Mary was well-loved by her kindergarten students and their families at Lincoln and Clarmar Elementary schools in Fremont.

After Bob’s passing, Mary was married to Donald Jensen of Blair in 1989. They retired together and traveled for many years in their motor home and as snowbirds to Arizona. Later, Loveland, Colorado, became their home. Mary was a darling soul. She loved the one in front of her! Many thanks go out to the caregivers and staff at Loveland Good Samaritan Village where Mary was adored and cherished during her final months. Don resides there, and cards may be sent to him at 2101 S. Garfield Ave., Loveland, CO 80537.

Mary is survived by: her husband of 28 years, Donald; daughter, Diana and Greg Larsen of Loveland; son, James and Natalie Newkirk of Arlington; grandchildren, Christy, Carrie, John, Erin, Julie, Zac, Eliza and Alexanna; stepsons, Roger and Micki Jensen of North Carolina and Ken and Judy Jensen of Grand Lake, Colorado, also survive with their children, Joshua, Laura, Molly, Andy and Erik. Mary is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Stewart Marshall of Arizona; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Sister-in-law, Fran Miller of Arlington, and brother-in-law, Ted Dimmitt of Fremont, also survive.

Memorials may be made to Okoboji Bible Conference, P.O. Box 709, Arnolds Park, IA 51331. A link for memorial giving may be found at okobojiconference.org.

A reception in celebration of her life will be held on Nov. 3 from 2-4 p.m. with a brief program at 3 p.m. at Fremont Alliance Church, 1615 N. Lincoln Ave. Fremont.
