Dan R. Westergaard was born on Aug. 20, 1932, in Omaha, the son of Fred and Beatrice (Knight) Westergaard. He graduated from Blair High School in 1949. On November 24, 1953, he was united in marriage to Harriett Petersen. Dan served his country in the United States Army from 1953 through 1954 in Korea. Dan and Harriett moved to a farm south of Blair in 1955 and then moved to a farm south of Craig in 1957. He did custom trucking and custom baling. Dan's hobby was collecting tractors.

He is survived by his wife; Harriett; sons and daughters-in-law; Dennis, Eugene (Robyn), and Wayne (Joan); grandchildren:; Kelsey Westergaard (Chad Fallon), Alex (Amanda) Westergaard, Katie (Owen) Knobbe and Nicole (Brandon) Burton and 2 great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law and a brother Russell Westergaard.
