Greg S. Derry, 60

Daughters Were the Love of His Life

Greg S. Derry, 60, of Omaha, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, after a long battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak-Cutler West Center Chapel in Omaha. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the funeral home.

Greg S. Derry was born March 19, 1951, in Council Bluffs to John and Pat Derry. He attended grade school and junior high in Council Bluffs. After the family moved to Blair, he completed his schooling at Blair High School and later attended Dana College.

He was a bricklayer, a dental lab technician and, after completing a course in transportation, worked as a dispatcher in Omaha. In 1986, he bought Ole's Tavern in Blair and operated it for several years. He then partnered to begin a successful trucking business which was sold in 2006.

He was an avid racquetball player and enjoyed golf and skiing. He became a father later in his life to Carlie and Kylie, the loves of his life.

He is survived by his daughters, Carlie and Kylie; sisters, Connie Derry and partner, Patrick Flynn, Cindy and Ron Dobosz; brothers, John and Laurel Derry and Scott Derry; nephews; aunts; uncles; and cousins; former wife and mother of his children, Judy Milledge; best friend, Jim Coop; loving neighbors and longtime friend, Nancy Schwertley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to Mr. Derry's daughters' education fund.
