Mary Hurd
Died on 5/3/1878
Buried in Blair Cemetery

Published in Blair Times on 16 May 1878 Departed this life on Friday, May 3rd, 1878, Mary A. Hurd, wife of Schuyler E. Hurd, of Lincoln precinct, Washington county, Neb.

The subject of the above notice was born in Ouondago county, N.Y., March 25th, 1838; and moved with her parents to Indiana, when but one year old. She was married to Mr. Hurd November 20th, 1859, remaining in Indiana until eleven years ago, when she with her husband and family, came to Nebraska, residing near Calhoun until the spring of 1875, when they moved to her last earthly residence, where she yielded this life for a better life (we believe) with God and the pure in heaven, on Friday last at 2 o'clock p.m.

During her sickness her greatest concern of mind was for her soul's welfare, which was increased by the tidings of her son's conversion in the recent good revival in Blair. So deep was her feeling of desire for salvation that she sought earnestly, often, by urgent entreaties pressing others into the service of prayer fo her. But "at evening time" it was "light." So joyous was the moment of her soul's salvation, and baptism of the holy fire of God's love to her, that she gave vent to her feelings in repeated expressions of "glory," after which she seemed to enjoy peace of mind, and was resigned to await the will of God and the summons of departure from this world.

In her death , a husband is bereft of an industrious, true and confiding companion; her children of a faithful and affectionate mother; and the community of a kind friend and affectionate neighbor. To those who knew her best we trust her memory will be ever be refreshing and lovely as the verdure and frangance of spring flowers. N.R.S.
