RITES FOR FRED HURDUM, 89, TODAY

Fred Hurdum, long-time farmer north of Blair, and well known here, passed away Tuesday, December 19th at his home at 1464 Adams Street. Mr. Hurdum was 89 years old last September 4th. He was born in Denmark in 1872 and immigrated to this country as a youth in 1891.

He located near Blair and in 1900 began farming north of Blair on the place now occupied by his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Viggo Anderson. He continued farming until 1937 when he moved to Blair.

He was married to Alice Mehrens in 1902. She passed away in 1936. He remarried in 1947 to Marie Truax, of Blair and for many years they lived in the vicinity of Dana College. Several years ago they moved to a new home on Adams Street.

He was prececded in death by a son, Harvey, and a daughter, Mary. He is survived by his wife, and one son, Dr. Herman Hurdum, of Ringhampton, New York, and by two daughters, Myrtle, now Mrs. Fred Payman, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and by Birdie, now Mrs. Viggo Anderson, of Blair.

Mr. Hurdum also raised three foster children, Fritz Muller and Howard Therkelsen, both of Blair, and Mrs. Larry Weare, of Carter lake, Iowa. He is surivived by seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. George Pallesen conducting the service. He will be laid to rest in the Blair cemetery under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary. Pallbearers will be William Anderson, James Anderson, Howard Therekelsen, Ted Therkelsen, Leland Muller and Larry Weare.
