Jeffrey W. Hurley, 46, died Aug. 2, 2007, at his home in Fremont. Funeral services were Thursday, Aug. 9, at the First Congregational Church UCC of Fremont. Interment was at Fremont's Memorial Cemetery. Jeffrey W. Hurley was born Oct. 17, 1960, in Fremont. He lived in the Fremont and Omaha areas all of his life. He was a graduate of Fremont High School and attended Southeast Community College. He also attended the School for the Visually Impaired at Lincoln.

He was a car salesman for Atchley Ford and other dealerships in the Omaha and Council Bluffs, Iowa, area. He later returned to Fremont, where he was employed by Hy-Vee. He truly appreciated the "work pals" and regular customers at Hy-Vee. He delighted in the people he met through his jobs.

He enjoyed fishing, walking, outdoor activities and was a fierce competitor in family card games. He felt special excitement and joy in the birth of his grandson.

He was a member of First Congregational Church UCC in Fremont, where he occasionally served as a greeter, usher and assisted in offering communion. He was blessed with a strong faith and trust in God's saving grace.

He married Shelley DeJong in 1984. The couple divorced in 1986. He is survived by his son, Jeremiah Hurley and special friend, Kayleen Goebel of Omaha; mother and stepfather, Cecelia "Cees" and Ron Eastberg of Fremont; father, Charles Hurley, also of Fremont; sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Roy Lueke of Blair; two step-brothers, Troy Eastberg of Fremont and Tab Eastberg of Kearney; one grandson; a niece and nephew.

He was preceded in death by a sister, JoLynn Hurley.

Memorials are suggested to the Fremont Care Corps and the First Congregational Church.

Moser Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
