Mrs. Peter Jansen Dies Suddenly

Mrs. Peter Jansen, a pioneer and much respected citizen of Washington County, was found dead in bed Monday morning, March 19, at her home eight miles south of Blair. She had retired in apparently good health at about ten o’clock Sunday evening. Her husband, Mr. Peter Jansen spoke to her in the morning and she did not answer. He got up and built the fires as usual. Then he again spoke to her and finally called his son, Adolph, who found that she had passed away. Dr. Geesaman of Ft. Calhoun, was summoned and he pronounced the trouble as heart failure.

Mary Oden was born at Schleswig, Holstein, Germany and came to America when a young girl. She was married to Peter Jansen in1876. They moved to their present home and resided there all their married life. Her husband and eight children are left to mourn her.

The children are: Mrs. Henry Nohrenberg, and Mrs. Wm. Nohrenberg of near Blair, Mrs. Wm. Heise, Mrs. Henry Heise, and Mrs. Walter Petersen of near Florence; Mr. Richard Jansen of near Irvington, Mrs. Peter Jansen of near Herman and Mr. Adolph who lives at home.

The deceased was 69 years, 3 months and 13 days at the time of her death.

The funeral services will be held at the residence at one o’clock on Thursday, March 22, Rev. Lambrecht, of the German Church in this city, conducting the services. Interment will be made at Ft/ Calhoun Cemetery.

Mrs. Peter Jansen Found Dead In Bed Monday Morning

Mrs. Peter Jansen, an old resident of the Garrytown district, was found dead in bed Monday morning by her husband. She had never suffered a days illness in the seventy-five years of her life and had always been blessed with an abundance of health and spirits. The deceased was born in Schleswig Holstein, Germany, and came to Nebraska many years ago and had always resided in the Garrytown neighborhood where she had many staunch friends.

The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon and the burial took place in Calhoun. The dead woman is survived by her husband, Peter Jansen, and the following sons and daughters: Mesdames William and Henry Norenberg of Washington County; William and Henry Heise, Walter Peterson, all of Douglas County; Richard Jansen, a farmer, Douglas County; Peter Jansen, Jr., of Herman; and Adolph Jansen, the only member of the family who resided with his parents. The deceased leaves a large circle of sorrowing friends who mourn her departure.
