Barbara June Hancock was born to Clarence and Edith (Bucy) Kelly on Nov. 22, 1926, in Tekamah. She passed away Nov. 21, 2017, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair at the age of 90 years.

She was raised on the family farm north of Tekamah and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1944. She worked briefly for an Omaha insurance company following graduation and was married to Leonard Hancock on Aug. 10, 1949. Together they raised three children; Marty, Nancy, and Russ.

During the early years, the family moved frequently including time in Nebraska, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and multiple locations throughout Alaska including some very remote villages. Throughout their travels, Barb kept a focus on her children and instilled in them a strong sense of family, love and tolerance.

Following Leonard’s retirement, the family returned to Tekamah in 1972 and over the years Grandma Hancock’s house became the focal point for summer reunions and Fourth of July celebrations.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clarence “Curly” Kelly Jr., husband, Leonard.

She is survived by her son, Marty (Sue) Hancock of Green Bay, Wis.; daughter, Nancy (Carl) Nelson of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Russ (Kristy) Hancock of Blair; sister, Gay White of Tekamah; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; numerous friends and family.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, 10:30 am at United Methodist Church in Tekamah

VISITATION: Sunday, 4-6 pm, with family receiving friends, at Pelan Funeral Services Tekamah. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church.

BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery
