Eugene A. Fischer, 89

Eugene A. Fischer, 89, of rural Arlington, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Arbor Manor in Fremont. His body has been donated to Creighton Medical School, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Eugene “Gene” August Fischer was born Aug. 18, 1917, on the family farm east of Winslow to Ernest F. and Anna (Scholl) Fischer.

He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vacoma and was confirmed at Fontanelle Lutheran Church.

Mr. Fischer farmed the family homestead in Washington County all of his life.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, where his love for flying began. He enjoyed flying his own airplane and taking Canadian fishing trips with his friends. He was a permanent member of American Legion Post No. 18 in Hooper.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Fischer, and Howard and Leona Fischer, all of Fremont, Louis Fischer of Blair, Ben and Esther Fischer of Creighton, and Don and Yash Fisher of Las Vegas, Nev.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Creighton University Medical School, 2500 California Plaza, Omaha, NE 68178, or the American Cancer Society.

A graveside service for “Gene” Fisher will be held at 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 19 at the Blair Cemetery. Eugene August Fischer, who lived in rural Arlington, died Feb. 8, 2007. His body was donated to Creighton Medical School. A memorial Mass honoring all donors of this past year will be held at 10 a.m. on April 19 at St. John’s, on the Creighton campus in Omaha.

Mr. Fischer is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert, of Fremont, Louis, of Blair; Ben and Esther of Creighton, and Don and Yash of Los Angeles, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Howard, died in March of 2007.
