Merle Ward, age 100, of Herman passed away Dec. 9, 2017, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Visitation will be Tuesday at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Herman American Legion. A luncheon will follow services. Graveside services will be held in the Blair Cemetery.

Merle Ward was born on September 15, 1917, in the Rose Hill area. He was the son of Norris and Metta (Milrons) Ward. Merle was raised in the Rose Hill area and attended Rose Hill school. On June 21, 1941, he was united in marriage to Ellen Johnson in Omaha. Merle worked as a farmer his entire life and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Roger (Laura Smail) Ward of Herman, Allan (Marian) Ward of Blair, Carol (David) Hovendick of Omaha, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ellen, sister Marie Petersen and brothers Myron and Russell Ward.

Memorials may be directed to the Herman Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, 508 Main St. Herman, NE 68029.
