Published in The Pilot September 8, 1926

The funeral of Mrs. James Foley was conducted at the Methodist Church at 2:30 last Friday afternoon by Rev. O. U. McProud, assisted by Rev. E. J. Hancock.

Mr. Foley came down from Hot Springs alone with the body, the funeral party being joined here by their daughter, Edith, Mrs. John L. Garrett, and husband, of Dexter, Ia., and other relatives.

Alice J. Stilts was born at Gilead, Ohio, Sept. 23rd, 1847, so was almost 79 years of age. Her father, Judge P. N. Stilts, was a territorial Judge in the district for a number of years, who came to Omaha in 1857, coming to Omaha by boat.

Later the family moved to Ft. Calhoun and there she met and married James Foley, April 11th, 1870. They came to Blair in 1872 and Mr. Foley was connected with the late Thos. P. Lippincott in the implement business for several years.

In 1887 they moved to South Omaha, where Mr. Foley was engaged in the live stock commission business. In 1900 they removed to this city once more, Mr. Foley having some time previously bought what is known as the Foley farm northeast of town, where he conducted a feeding ranch until 1905, when they sold out and again moved to Omaha. In 1916 they took up a homestead near Edgemont, S. D., where they made their home for six years.

The past four years they have resided at the State Soldiers Home at Hot Springs. Mrs. Foley had been bothered with heart trouble for the past three months, which developed into dropsy. Death resulted Wednesday.

She is survived by her husband and three daughters, Mrs. Richard Bradley and Mrs. W. J. Frost, both of Fayetteville, Ark., and Mrs. John L. Garrett, of Dexter, Ia. There are three grandchildren, also Raymond Bradley and Alice J. and Wm J. Frost. She had an only sister, Mrs. Isaac Murphy, and a half-brother, Bert Philip Stilts, both of who have been dead many years. She was a cousin of Mrs. John Carter of this city. Mrs. Mabel Truax and daughter, Louella, Mrs. R. Hatch, Mrs. And Mrs. Louis Steineger and Arthur Bailey, all of Omaha, were here for the funeral service.
