Lena (Rathjen) Fischer
Died on 1/16/1912
Buried in Fort Calhoun Cemetery

Mrs. Henry Fischer

In spite of the severe weather we do not think we ever saw so many people in the Presbyterian Church of Ft. Calhoun as attended the funeral January 18, 1912. She was born on the James Foley farm near here, where her parents lived for over thirty years before coming to town to live. In 1906 she was married to her schoolmate, Henry Fischer, who owned a fine farm only a couple of miles from her home and they were very happy up to the time of her last illness.

She leaves, besides her aged parents, Nicholas Rathjen and wife, whose sufferings seem almost unbearable, a brother on the home farm and two children, one past four years old and the other about five months old.

The attendance at the funeral certainly shows how much she was loved and esteemed. Rev. August Hilkeman of Omaha preached in German and the anthems in German were sung by Mrs. Joe Bolln, Mrs. Les Rathjen and Miss Edith Seirk, with Mrs. W. McMillan at the organ. The pallbearers were Otto Asmussen, Hans Kruse, Jr., Claus Ohrt, Everett Kundt, W. Schmidt and W. Tiegen. She was born in 1883. Mrs. John Landis, as usual on such occasions, arranged the great mass of beautiful flowers.

Among other present were Chris Staben of Carroll, Claus Schwager and son John of Omaha and others we did not know.

Note: Since the actual death date was not shown, the service date was used.
