Eliza Jane Joy (Bellville)

The funeral of Mrs. M. B. Joy was held last Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Church, Rev. T. J. Reese, pastor of the Baptist Church officiating. The singers were Mrs. George Lowe, Miss Mildred Swanson, Messrs. John Johnson and Fred Robertson with Mrs. E. P. Hansen at the piano. Mrs. Eliza Jane Bellville was born July 6, 1840 in Belmont County Ohio, and died March 5, 1926 at the home of her oldest daughter, Mrs. C. A. Hansen, Council Bluffs, Iowa, making her 85 years 7 months, and 29 days. She was untied in marriage to Mr. Mordecai B. Joy, December 12th, 1861. To this union seven children were born one of them dying in infancy. She came with her family to Burt County, Nebr., in 1868 and settled near the homestead school house six miles eat of Herman. A short time after a Methodist Church was organized at that place and she became one of its charter member. Later the family moved to a farm near Herman where they made their home for a number of years. At this place Mr. Joy passed away seventeen years ago this fall. She leaves to mourn her loss six children, Mrs. C. A. Hansen, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Andrew M. Joy, Silvia, Missouri, Mrs. Chris Speck, Tekamah, Nebr., Mrs. Bert Leonard, of Kennard, Nebr., Warren Joy, Ballentine, Montana; three brothers, four sisters, and thirty-four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and also many friends. Mrs. Joy while living near Herman, endeared herself to all who knew her sacrifices, always ready to help anyone in need and through her life she manifested that love she professed to have for her Savior.
