Jacob Short

The body of Jacob Short, for so many years a resident of Blair, was brought down from Winner, S. D., and the funeral held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at the home of his son, R. W. Short, Rev. A. D. Smalley officiating. He died last Friday evening at the home of another son, A. A. Short, who lives thirty miles from Winner, where he had made his home most of the time in the past eight years. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery by the side of his wife, whose death occurred in this city February 2nd, 1914. Deceased was born at Salem, Ind., March 12th, 1839, so was nearing his 88th birthday. He grew to manhood there and was married to Miss Syrilda Nale at Salem, January 18th, 1866. Three children were born to them. R. W. Short and Mrs. G. W. Pickell, of this city and A. A. of Winner. He is also survived by four brothers, Wm, in Illinois, George, David and James, all of Salem, Ind. Mr. Short came to Nebraska in 1878 and settled on the Cauble farm adjoining Blair on the north, where he spent the balance of his life except for his trips to Winner. He wasn’t a member of any church but he was ready when the end came and was ready to pass over and be with his wife and companion for of so many years.
