Published in the Enterprise January 12, 1928

Martha Helen Lute was born April 14, 1866 in Washington County, Nebraska. She grew to womanhood in the vicinity. At an early age she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church of which she remained a faithful member to the end. On Sept 18, 1889 she was united in marriage to S. P. Heffley at Chadron, Neb. To this union eight children were born all of who survive except one child, Elbert Lute Heffley, who preceded her to the grave. For the past twelve years she has been an invalid, confined to her chair most of the time. She bore her suffering patiently and without complaint. On Jun. 5, 1928 she was called to her reward. Besides her husband and children, she leaves to mourn her death her aged father, G. W. Lute of Denver, Colorado, four sisters and three brothers, all living at a distance. Interment and short services were held at the New England Cemetery Sunday afternoon Jan. 8, 1928. The services were conducted by Rev. Norlin, pastor of the Herman Methodist Church. The singers were, Fred Robertson, Charles Gray, Mrs L. Johnson, and those acting as pallbearers: John Jackson, Red Kubie, Wil Behrendt, Fred, Louie and Herman Hovendick.
