Carl A. Bolt, 85, retired Schuyler businessman, died Saturday at Memorial Hospital shortly after being admitted.

Funeral service was conducted Tuesday at the Svoboda Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Wakeman officiating.

Burial was in the Blair Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. R. R. Tomes, Leonard Kelly, Joe J. Stradosky, Marion Donovan, Philip Dworak and Anton Votava, Jr.

The son of Emmett and Mary Jane Rosenbaum Bolt, he was born August 27, 1894, in Blair and attended Blair Public Schools. He married Blanche B. Dexter on October 25, 1916, in Blair. Mrs. Bolt died November 21, 1965. Mr. Bolt was a mail carrier for eight years before the family moved to Schuyler in 1920 and opened the Bolt Variety Store on April 3. Mr. Bolt was the owner of the Bolt Variety Store and had the distinction of having the oldest business in Schuyler, owned and operated by the original owner. He was in business for 58 years when he sold the variety store to Anton and Marcella Votava on January 1, 1979.

He was active in the development of Schuyler parks, he was an avid tennis player in his younger years and had a private tennis court in his yard. He was also an avid golfer and participated in the Nebraska Senior Tournament each year.

Mr. Bolt was a member of the Nebraska Men’s Senior Golf Assn., and the Schuyler Golf Club.

He is survived by a daughter, Rita, Mrs. Jack Mares of Columbus; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Guy of Valley and three sisters, Helen Bolt, Carrie Jensen and Mrs. Evelyn Wilson, all of Blair.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Carl Jr.; two granddaughters; three sisters and one brother.
