Lizzie Judson Beattie (Kirby)

Word has been received that Mrs. L. J. Beattie, formerly Miss Lizzie Kirby, of this city, died at her home in Portland, Oregon, February 18, 1927. She was born in Illinois and came to Nebraska in 1867 with her parents. Here she grew to womanhood, was graduated from Blair High School in 1886, and taught several years in this county. She moved with here parents to Salem, Oregon and taught a few years near Salem before her marriage to Mr. Beattie, making their home in Portland. Two sons were born to them one of whom and her husband died several years ago. One son, Byron, of Portland, one sister, Mrs. A. D. Arnold, also one brother, Dr. Ed Kirby, survive her.

Former Blair Woman Called

Mrs. L. J. Beattie, formerly of Blair and known to early residents as Miss Lizzie Kirby, died at her home in Portland, Oregon, Feb. 18th.

She was born in Illinois and with her parents came to Blair in 1867, two years before the town site was laid out and here she grew to womanhood and received her education in Blair schools where she and two sisters and a brother graduated, she and her brother, Ed, graduating in 1886.

After her graduation she taught school in this county for several years and then with the family moved to Salem, Oregon near which place she again taught school and then was married to Mr. L. J. Beattie and made her home in Portland, Oregon. Two sons were born to them. One son and her husband preceded her in death some years back.

Since leaving Blair she has made four trips back, the last one being in the fall of 1924. Blair has always been home to them and the home comings have always been made with a great deal of pleasure.

She leaves to mourn her death one son, Byron Beattie of Portand, Oregon and one sister, Mrs. A. G. Arnold, and a brother, Dr. Edward Kirby, the father, mother and one sister passing away before her.
