Lucretia Alice “Crete” (Lippincott) Cantlin

Mrs. J. R. Cantlin passed away rather suddenly at about 9 o’clock last Thursday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edna Noble, where she had recently gone because of her ill health. Her heart had been bothering her and her condition proved even more serious than she thought.

The funeral service was held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, Rev. Chas. D. Hering officiating. Burial in the Blair Cemetery.

Lucretia Alice Lippincott was born in Washington County, Indiana, November 1, 1852, so would have been 75 years of age this year. The family came to this county in 1857 and settled on a homestead northwest of town, where E. C. Lippincott now lives. She was married to J. R. Cantlin June 5th, 1890, and they made their home in Dodge County until they sold the farm in 1900, when they removed to Blair. Two year later Mr. Cantlin passed away and was buried by the side of his first wife in Dodge County.

Mrs. Cantlin was a member of the W. R. C. and of Welcome Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by three brothers, James, of this city, E. C. who lives just northwest of Blair on the Washington highway and Will, of Red Cloud, Nebr. Also one sister, Mrs. L. R. Fletcher, of Bancroft. The stepchildren are Mrs. Edna Nobel, of this city, J. H. Cantlin, of Alliance, Nebr., Geo. W. Cantlin of St. Petersburg, Fla., Chas. E. of Rawlings, Wyo., R. G. of Boone, Ia., R. L. of North Platte and Miss Ella Maude, of Boone, Ia.

AGED RESIDENT DIES

Mrs. Lucretia Cantlin Expires After Illness of Short Duration

Mrs. Lucretia Alice Cantlin was born in Washington county, Indiana on November 1st, 1852, and died at the home of her stepdaughter, Mrs. Edna J. Noble last Thursday evening after a short illness lasting less than a week. She had been visiting her sister at Bancroft for some time, and had returned to Blair just a week before she expired.

The deceased came to this county in 1857 with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Joshua C. Lippincott, who made their home on the old Lippincott home on the bench road about four miles north of Blair. On June 25, 1890 she was united in marriage to J. R Cantlin of Webster, Nebraska, and the family lived on a farm in Dodge county until in 1900 when they moved to this city. Mr. Cantlin preceded her in death about five years ago and since that time the deceased has lived in the family home on west Grant street. She was one of the old settlers of this community, and was always highly respected by all who she came in contact with.

Besides five stepsons and two stepdaughters, she leaves to mourn her loss one sister, Mrs.. S. R. Fletcher of Bancroft, and three brothers, E. C. and J. W. Lippincott of Blair and Wm. Lippincott of Red Cloud, Nebraska.

After a short service at the home of Mrs. Noble, a funeral service was held at the St. Mary’s Episcopal church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, after which the body was laid to rest in Blair cemetery.
