SERVICES HELD IN TEKAMAH FOR WILLIAM BOLT

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church in Tekamah Monday, November 12, for William J. Bolt, longtime osteopathic physician and former mayor who died in the Blair hospital November 9 after a lengthy illness.

Dr. Bolt, 83, had practiced osteopathic medicine in Tekamah for the past 56 years. He closed his offices only two weeks prior to his death, although he had limited his practice in recent years because of failing health.

Dr. Bolt established his medical practice in Tekamah in 1923 following graduation from the American School of Osteopathy in Kirksville, Missouri. He earlier had attended Dana College in Blair and taught school for four years.

He was born in Blair August 3, 1896, the son of Emmet and Mary Jane Bolt. He attended elementary and high school there. In 1928 he was married to Anna Lindenmeyer in Lincoln and the couple had one son, William Jr.

Dr. Bolt was a member of the Tekamah City Council during the 1950's. In 1960 he was elected mayor, a post he held for eight years.

Among the most significant community accomplishments during his administration were construction of a new fire station-city maintenance building and the acquisition and development of a 22-acre city park at the north edge of town.

He was a devoted high school sports fan and for 37 years served as attending physician for Tekamah's football teams. He was a 53 year member of the Tekamah Masonic Lodge and an elder of the Presbyterian Church in Tekamah since 1944.

Survivors include his wife, Anna and son Bill, the latter of Overland Park, Kansas, three grandsons; two brothers, Guy of Omaha and Carl of Schuyler; and three sisters, Carrie Jensen, Helen Bolt and Evelyn Wilson, all of Blair.

The Rev. Walter Millett presided at Monday's 10 a.m. funeral service. Pallbearers were Charles Petersen, Elmer Sells, Dale Isom, Larry Kerwin, Fred Kjeldgaard and Keith Hopewill. Interment was in Blair Cemetery.
