Another one of Nebraska’s pioneers, John Diedrick Toebben, passed away Saturday morning, March 26th, after an illness of four weeks at the farm home, northwest of Arlington, where he had lived for forty-nine years, at the age of 85 years and three months. He leaves to mourn his death two sons and two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 3 o’clock at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by his pastor, Rev. Woltor. The many friends of the family extend their sympathy.

Funeral services for John Deitrich Toebben were held last Tuesday at one-thirty at the home and at two o’clock at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the pastor Rev. G. W. Wolter officiating. Mr. Toebben was born Dec. 26, 1841 in Vechtel, Hanover, Germany. In 1855 he came to America, landing at New Orleans; in the fall he went to Quincy, Ill. and then on to Poplar Grove, Minn. where he made his home for seven years. In 1868 he came to Washington County; ten years later he was married to Miss Johanette Engelhurdt. Three sons and a daughter were born to this union. His wife, one son and the daughter preceded him in death. Mr. Toebben passed away Saturday morning after an illness of four weeks at the same place where he had lived for 49 years, four miles north and three miles west of Arlington. Surviving him are two sons, one daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.
