Zach Townsend, formerly of Tekamah, passed away, Monday, January 15, 2018, in Columbia, S. C.

Memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 24, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah. Military honors will follow services at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. There will be no burial. Memorials to the family for later designation.

Zachary Ryan Townsend was born Sept. 4, 1989 to Leroy and Elizabeth (Hill) Townsend in Blair. He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 28, at his home in Columbia, S.C. Zack was a 2008 graduate of Tekamah-Herman High School. He was active in football, baseball, wrestling, and basketball. After high school, Zack enlisted in the United States Air Force. He did 10 weeks of basic training at Nellis Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. From there, Zack was stationed in Las Vegas. He was deployed to South Korea for one year. Upon returning to the US, he was assigned to Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina where he earned the ranking of Staff Sargent. Zack had several hobbies and interests, of those his favorites were riding his motorcycle, taking apart and fixing things and learning and experimenting with cooking authentic cuisine. The most important person in Zack’s life was his daughter, Zaphera. He always loved to spend time with her. Zack was always seen with a smile on his face. He was never too busy to help someone out and was always there if you needed someone to talk to.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gary Townsend and Alta Townsend; uncles, Norman and George; aunts, Theanna and Carol. He is survived by his daughter, Zaphera; parents, Leroy Townsend and Liz Townsend; siblings, Nicholas, Samantha and Matthew; nephew, Grayson; grandparents, Anna McKenney, Ray and Linda Murphy; several uncles, aunts and cousins.
