Mrs. J. O. McVey Dead-Passed Away Near Ft. Morgan Colorado, Monday, Dec. 26th After a Long Illness

Mrs. Ammie R. McVey, a rancher living south of here, died this morning in Fremont after a long illness of several years. Mrs. McVey had been in poor health for three or four years but not until the past year was she so poorly.

Ammie Reynolds McVey was born near Eureka, Ill, April 16, 1865, the same day that President Lincoln died, where she grew to young womanhood. In 1880, she came to Arlington, then called Bell Creek, with her mother, Mrs. Mary Reynolds, and brothers, Chase and Ned Reynolds>

She was the first student to enroll at the Fremont Normal College, which was run by William H. Clemmons, afterward state superintendent of Nebraska. She was a teacher in the Arlington schools and also Dodge County schools for a number of years, which she performed with efficiency and faithfulness.

In 1890, she married at Arlington to John O. McVey, principal in the Arlington schools, and they lived a number of years at Arlington and Bellwood, Nebraska where Mr. McVey was a general agent for the National Question Book. They afterwards moved to Denver, Colorado and other western cities, where he continued his work.

About 15 years ago they moved to a ranch south of Ft. Morgan where Mr. McVey engaged in the stock business. Mrs. McVey was known everywhere for her optimism and kindness and always had a smile for those whom she met.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Schulz, of Holyoke, Colorado; Mrs. Romaine Littrell, of Salt Lake City, Utah: one son, Prof. Phillip McVey of Flagstaff, Arizona. Also, three brothers, F. A. Reynolds, of Ft. Morgan, Colorado, V. C. Reynolds, of Milburn, Nebraska, E. N. Reynolds, of Denver and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Moore and Mrs. Charles Harrison, both of Denver and Mrs. F. H. Heuermann, of Adena, Colorado.
