Darrell Dean (Pete) Laaker, age 85, of rural Nickerson, passed away on Jan. 22 at Nye Legacy in Fremont.

He was born April 5, 1932 to Albert and Vera (Echtenkamp) Laaker in rural Nickerson. He was raised on the family farm and was a farmer there his entire life. He was baptized, confirmed and was a member at St. Paul’s Church in Arlington. He attended Lallman, Brinkman and St. Paul’s Schools in rural Washington County. He went to high school and graduated from Fontanelle HS. He played softball and bowled for many years. He belonged to Arlington Lions Club and liked playing cards and fishing.

He is survived by his sister-in-law: Ila Laaker, nieces and nephews: Steve and Monte Laaker, Cindy ‘Georgia’ (Pete) Stibor, Ryan (Darcy) Dorfmeyer, Tricia Dorfmeyer, Troy (Kelly) Dorfmeyer, Vicky and Byron Sanders. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother: Gerald, brother: Duane, sisters and brother-in- laws: Mardell and Ivan Sanders and Marva and Bob Dorfmeyer and niece Darcy Dorfmeyer.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington. The Rev. Rick Kanoy will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 3-8pm with the family present from 6-8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
