Delwin John Benne was born to Herman and Evelyn (Ahrens) Benne on March 23, 1923, in West Point, Nebraska. He passed away January 7, 2018 at Oakland Heights Nursin Home, in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 83 years.

As a child, Delwin and his family moved to Oakland. He graduated from Oakland High School in 1953. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

On August 15, 1971, Delwin married Hilda May Lagge of Tripp, South Dakota. To this union were born four children: twins, Mark and Matthew, born on August 24, 1972; Dale on November 14, 1974; and Mary on July 3, 1977.

Delwin ran the Oakland Greenhouse for many years with his mother. He would later become a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. After retiring from the US Postal Service in 1992, Delwin went to work for Dean Woerman with Woerman Construction in West Point.

Delwin was a member of the Oakland Volunteer Fire and Rescue for 25 years and was a member of the American Legion Post 46. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Oakland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Norma Jean (Maurice) Peterson; brothers, Dwight "Spunk" Benne and Dayton Benne.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda; sons, Mark (Heidi) Benne of Columbus, NE, Matthew (Gina) Benne of Lincoln, NE, Dale (Stephanie) Benne of Oakland; daughter, Mary (Joel) Jorgensen of Blair, NE; 11 grandkids, Dylan, Zchary and Hannah Benne, Lexan and Makain Benne, Kobe, Kennedy, Lincoln and Jagger Benne, Derek and Damon Jorgensen; brother, Gerald Benne of Oakland; sister Phyllis (Tom) Meyer of Uehling, NE; sisters-in-law, Mary Benne and Margaret Benne both of Oakland; many nieces and nephews.
