Raymond D. Fisher, 73

Raymond D. Fisher, 73, of Omaha, died Monday March 1, 2010, at Brighton Gardens in Omaha.

Funeral services were Thursday, March 4, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Military graveside services at Fremont’ Memorial Cemetery were conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20.

Raymond D. Fisher was born Feb. 20, 1937, in White Cloud, Kan., to William and Winnie Fisher. He grew up in Kansas and at Fairbury, and was a 1955 graduate of Fairbury High School.

He was employed at Campbell’s Soup Company in Fairbury before transferring to the company’s plant in Fremont.

He served in the United States Army for three years. After his discharge from the service, he moved to Blair, where he was the director of public works for 15 years. He moved to Omaha in 1989 and was employed by the Omaha Public Power District. He retired in 1996 after 25 years of service.

On Nov. 6, 1966, he married Lila Scheer at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Arlington.

Mr. Fisher was a member of American Legion Post 154 of Blair, and served on the Blair Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years.

He is survived by his former wife, Lila Fisher of Blair; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Deanne Fisher of Antioch, Ill.; mother Winnie Fisher of Fremont; brothers and sister-in-law, William Fisher Jr. and Larry and Pat Fisher, all of Fremont; and sister, Betty Fisher, also of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his father and a son, Raymond W. Fisher.

Memorials are suggested to the Blair Volunteer Fire Department.
