Mrs. J. W. Erwin passed away at her home on West Grant Street at 2:30 yesterday afternoon following an illness of several months duration due to her advanced years, she being 89 years, 2 months, and 9 days old.

The funeral service will be held at the residence at 2:30 tomorrow, Thursday, afternoon, interment in the Blair Cemetery.

Joanna Frances Arnold was born in Galena, Delaware County, Ohio, March 22, 1838. Her family came west when she was but a small child and settled at Louthine Prairie near the Mississippi River, where her father died. Her mother then took the family back to Ohio, where they lived for a few years, again turning their faces westward to central Illinois. She received her education at the normal school in in Bloomington, Ill., and taught for many years. She was untied in marriage to James W. Erwin on April 9th, 1868, and four children were born to them, the youngest, J. Walter, dying when a small child.

She is survived by her husband, Elsie, Mrs. George McBride, Allen W., of Hutchinson, Kans., Anna W. Caldwell, of Omaha, an aged sister Sophie Huddtiston, of Miami, Fla. Also eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews.

She was a member of the Woman’s Relief Corps and was a member of the Methodist Church at Farm City, Ill. They came to this state in an early day and lived on a farm in the March School district west of Blair. Twenty years ago they retired from the farm and have made their home in this city. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of many friends.
