Janet Lucille Nelson, age 97, of Blair passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Carter Place Feb. 8, 2018.

Janet was born April 17, 1920 to Soren and Hannah Jensen. She attended country school and graduated from Herman High School in 1937. She grew up on the family farm five miles southwest of Herman with her sister Leola and enjoyed helping her parents on the farm with the daily chores, riding her horse Frank to school each day and spending time with her lifelong friend Ellen Ward. In 1941 she and cousins drove to Pasadena, California to attend the Rose Bowl and parade and came home by train.

On Feb. 8, 1950 Janet married Shurley Nelson of Fremont, Nebraska and to this union three children were born; Kent, Mark and Jill. They enjoyed farm life together raising hogs, cattle, corn and soybeans and enjoyed attending their children's activities in church, 4-H and all school events. In 1979 Janet and Shurley were blessed and had the pleasure of raising two of their grandchildren, Amy and Ryan all the way to adulthood.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents Soren and Hannah Jensen, husband Shurley, son Kent and daughter-in-law Debbie, sister and brother-in-law Leola and Howard Kubie.

Survivors include Mark and Gladys Nelson Herman, Jill and Lynn Sass Elkhorn, Amy and Matt Sather Blair, Ryan and Melissa Nelson Potomac, Md. Grandchildren Jessica and Lance Nuttelman, Addi and Bryce Ft. Calhoun, Chad Nelson and Jamie Johnson, Herman, Garrett Sass Seattle Wash., Gavin Sass, Elkhorn, Stella, Jack and Marin Sather, Blair, Ariadne and Victoria Nelson Potomac, Md.

Memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Blair at 1:00 pm on Saturday, Feb. 17 with lunch and fellowship to follow the service at First Lutheran Church. Final resting place will be at Blair cemetery. Memorials may be sent to First Lutheran Church, Blair, NE.
