Sarah Riley Otteman

Sarah Riley Otteman, 96, of Fremont, formerly of Omaha and Kennard, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Valhaven Nursing Center in Valley.

She was born Dec. 9, 1908, in North Shields, England, to Thomas E. and Sarah J. (Chater) Henderson. She came to the U.S. in 1913 and grew up in Omaha. She married John E. Riley Sr. on July 29, 1926. They lived in Omaha, moving to an acreage near Kennard in 1965. Her husband died in 1975, and later that same year she moved to Fremont. She married Albert H. Otteman on May 14, 1982, and they made their home in Fremont. He preceded her in death in July 1987. While living near Kennard, and for a time after moving to Fremont, she was in the antique business.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. She was a past member of the Fremont Eagles Auxiliary and she had been active in Fremont's Senior Citizen organization and its kitchen band.

Survivors include: a son, John Riley Jr. of Omaha; a daughter, Colleen McInroy of Fremont; a stepdaughter, Alberta Franke of Fremont; a brother, Joseph Henderson of Bensonville, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, a daughter-in-law, a grandchild, nine brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Timothy Gierke officiating. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Wednesday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.

A memorial has been established to the church.
