Mrs. Dick Stewart Dead-Passed Away at her Home in Kennard Friday Eve-December 2nd-Funeral Tuesday Afternoon

Mrs. G. R. Stewart passed away at her home in Kennard at about 8 o’clock last Friday evening, following an illness of some two months with a complication of diseases. She had been ailing for over two years. The funeral service was held at at the Methodist Church in Kennard, the service being conducted by Rev. H. E. Lacey, the sermon by her former pastor, Rev. W. C. George, now of Hooper.

The body was laid to rest in the Kennard Cemetery by the side of that of her husband, whose death occurred just about a year ago. The large attendance of relatives and friends showed something of the high esteem in which Mrs. Stewart was held in the community.

Lucy Jane McGee was born in Greensburg, Pa., Sept. 13, 1861, so was past 66 years of age. She came to Nebraska with her family in 1869, so was a real pioneer and knew what pioneering was. She was united in marriage to Gabriel Richard Stewart in Kennard, May 1, 1883, and they made their home on a farm one mile south of Kennard until 1912, when they moved into Kennard.

Five children were born to them, four of whom are living, Mrs. Jeannie Prichard having been killed in an auto accident in Kennard a few years ago. Mrs. Bell Lecrone and Mrs. Edna Nelson live in Omaha, Mrs. Minnie Cook and Don C. Stewart live in Denver, Colo. All were here for the funeral service. There are thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She leaves two brothers, Joseph McGee, of Goldfield, Nev., and Frank McGee, of San Padre, Calif. Also, two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Wyman, of Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Agnes Case, who had lived with her the past two years.

KENNARD LADY DIES

Pioneer County Resident Expires After Short Illness

Mrs. Lucy Stewart, widow of the late G. R. Stewart, and a resident of Washington county since 1876, died at her home in Kennard at 9:30 o’clock Friday evening. She had been suffering with ill health for two months, and had been under the care of a special nurse for the last 10 days.

Mrs. Stewart was born in Pennsylvania September 13, 1861, and moved to Omaha with her parents in 1872. The family lived in Omaha for four years, and then moved to Washington county. She was married tin 1882 to G. R. Stewart, and five children were born to the union, four of whom survive.

The husband and one daughter preceded Mr. Stewart in death. The surviving children are Donovan Stewart of Denver, Mrs. Winnie Cook of Denver, Mrs. Edna Nielsen of Omaha, Mrs. Belle LeCrone of Omaha. Two brothers, A. Magee of Montana and Frank Magee of San Pedro, Calif., and two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Wyman of East Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Agnes Case of Kennard also survive. Thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren are numbered among the many surviving relatives.

The Stewart family has been prominently known and highly regarded in the Kennard vicinity since pioneer days. The family home was established on a farm one mile southwest of Kennard until 15 years ago when they moved to Kennard to reside.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church at Kennard on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock the Rev. H. E. Lacy of Kennard being assisted by Rev. W. T. George of Hooper in the services. Burial was made in the Kennard cemetery.
