Fritz D. Moeller

Published in the Enterprise December 29, 1927

The entire community was grieved at the loss of Fritz D. Moeller, one of Calhoun’s old settlers. Fritz D. Moeller was born in Holstein Germany, Dec. 8, 1851. He with his parents, came to America in the early 60’s, locating at Ft. Calhoun on the farm now occupied by the Keegan boys. Here he resided until a short time before his marriage to Katherine Schale, July 23, 1880.

Mr. and Mrs. Moeller have lived on their farm in Douglas County, northwest of Florence since their marriage until two years ago when they retired to Omaha living there until his death Dec, 15, 1927.

. To this union twelve children were born, three preceding, the father in death. The surviving children are Mrs. R. K. Jensen of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Emanuel Nelson of Elwood, Nebr., Mrs. Emil Walberg of Smithfield, Neb., Mrs. Ira Dixon and Charles of Calhoun, Mrs. Gus Tonjes, Henry, Emil and Rudolph of Omaha. They and fifteen grandchildren, with his faithful wife, and two sisters, Mrs. Hans Schwager of Hemet, Calif., and Mrs. C. Hamann of Omaha, and a brother, John Moeller of Grant Neb., are left to mourn his departure.

A house full of sorrowing hearts gathered at the home at 2760 North 48th Street and after a few words and prayer and consolation the cortege preceded to Ft. Calhoun. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church of Ft. Calhoun, Dec. 20, 1927, Rev. Acher of First Lutheran Church of Omaha, officiating,

The forcefulness of his talk can only be appreciated by the close friends of Mr. Moeller, those who knew the inner man of him, his pride in good work, his pride in knowing what was right and sparing no effort to accomplish right without offending those about him. Mastering his own burdens and always willing to help another less fortunate than himself. These traits being carried on to the very end, when the guardian angel said, “Welcome home thou faithful servant”.

The bounteous floral offering and the church filled to overflowing with friend and neighbors are sufficient proof of th esteem in which Mrs. Moeller was held.

Burial was made in the Ft. Calhoun Cemetery.
